Analytics, EULAs, and data collection

Consent is key. Learn how to use Breakroom's powerful tools to create custom EULAs, personalize your data consent policies, and generate analytics reports.

Overview

While few resources are more valuable, there are many legal and ethical issues to consider when it comes to collecting and retaining user data. Breakroom offers a suite of tools designed to help our subscribers implement their existing Data Collection Policies, as well as comply with legislation such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Breakroom also offers a basic analytics package, which can be accessed on-demand through your Dashboard. You can learn more about the user data we track and how to manage and access it by reviewing the information below.

Advanced analytics are available for Priority Support and Customer Success Plan subscribers, and can be requested from the Customer Success Team at any time. Our advanced analytics reports include zone-specific visit data, as well as engagement information (such as media clicks).

Managing analytics and marketing data collection

World Owners can elect to make the collection of basic user analytics and marketing data optional or mandatory. By making the collection of such data optional, you give users the ability to opt in and out of data collection at any time, as well as to customize which types of data they would like to share.

Here is an example of the Analytics and Marketing Preferences available to end users under the Settings panel. Aside from Essential Data (which is required for the Breakroom platform to function, as detailed in our Privacy Policy), the collection of additional data is marked as optional, and users have the ability to opt in and out of various forms of data collection as they see fit.

In certain circumstances, you may have a legitimate interest in tracking platform usage. In these cases, you may elect to make data collection mandatory. Please be aware that you have full liability for any misuse of this functionality, and it is strongly recommended that you consult a legal or privacy professional prior to doing so. You will also need to provide a link to your own, externally hosted Privacy Policy page.

Making analytics and marketing data collection optional

To make analytics or marketing data collection optional, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to your Dashboard.

  2. Click on the Settings tab.

  3. Scroll down to the section entitled Analytics & Marketing Settings.

  4. You will see two toggles—one for Analytics, and one for Marketing.

    1. Analytics: Analytics data can provide us with insights on how to create a better user experience. If analytics tracking is turned on, we may gather information about how users interact with the platform (e.g. time spent in-world, whether users log in via World Stream or on a desktop app, etc.).

    2. Marketing: By enabling the collection of marketing data, users consent to receiving correspondence from either Breakroom or you, the World Owner. This may include emails, newsletters, etc.

  5. Toggle one or both of these data types to Optional. (When correctly done, the white toggle will surround the word Optional.)

Custom EULAs

If you are running an event that requires an EULA, Breakroom makes it easy to seamlessly integrate review and acceptance of this document into the user login experience. On this page you'll learn how to enable or disable EULA review, as well as how to upload your own EULA.

If you upload your own EULA, it will be displayed after the Breakroom ToS the first time users log in. Users will need to review and accept both documents in order to access your world.

Enabling or disabling custom EULAs

To turn your custom EULA on or off, follow these steps.

  1. Log in to your Dashboard.

  2. Click on the Settings tab.

  3. Under the World EULA section, you will see a toggle button. Click the World EULA toggle button to the desired position. (The white portion of the toggle will highlight your choice.)

Entering a custom EULA

If you want to enable a custom EULA, you can upload your own text by following these steps.

  1. Log in to your Dashboard.

  2. Click on the Settings tab.

  3. Under the World EULA section, you will see a toggle button. Click the World EULA toggle button to the On position. (The white portion of the button will highlight the word On.)

  4. A text field will appear. You can type or paste the contents of your EULA into this field.

  5. Alternatively, you can upload a TXT file by clicking the Browse link located beneath the text field. This will open a standard import window on your computer. Locate the TXT file you want to use, click on it, and then click the Open button. You will see the contents of your TXT file appear in the text field automatically.

  6. After your EULA content is entered, click the Save Changes button.
