The last contact name has been clicked, revealing an action menu." width="295"><figcaption><p>Pictured: The combined People and Groups window.</p></figcaption></figure></div>

The People window allows you to create and manage your own personal list of Breakroom contacts. If a contact is currently online, a **pink dot** will be displayed beside their name. Clicking on a username opens an **action menu**, allowing you to send [messages](https://docs.breakroom.tech/getting-started/communicating-with-other-users#direct-message), issue [teleport invites](https://docs.breakroom.tech/bookmarks-and-teleport-invites#teleport-invites), and access the contact's [user profile](https://docs.breakroom.tech/exploring-breakroom/networking-with-other-users/..#accessing-another-users-profile) with just a few clicks.

{% hint style="info" %}
World Owners and World Administrators can [enable and disable parts of the UI](https://docs.breakroom.tech/creating-custom-experiences/ui-customization-options) via the [Dashboard](https://docs.breakroom.tech/building-new-worlds/breakroom-dashboard-tour). You may not have access to every function described in this section.
{% endhint %}

## Adding a contact to your People list

### In person

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://1679086873-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5gOE0ivmDtuXfHroTVSx%2Fuploads%2FnTcLPggCrdTERUevSCW2%2FPeople_003.jpg?alt=media&#x26;token=388d40a0-1a1e-437f-8099-93aa9fc231da" alt="A screenshot of two female avatars standing in front of a modern sculpture. The avatar on the right has been clicked, revealing an action menu. The Add/Delete Contact action is highlighted." width="450"><figcaption><p>Highlighted: The Add/Delete Contact action in the avatar action menu.</p></figcaption></figure></div>

If you want to add a nearby user to your People list, you have a few options.

*Option one*: Click on that person's **avatar** and then click **Add/Delete Contact** in the action menu that appears. An invitation will be sent to the other user, which they will need to confirm before they are added to your contact list.

*Option two*: Click the **People button** to open the People window. If other users are close by, their names will be listed under the **Nearby category.** Click the **> arrow** to the left of the Nearby category to expand it, and then click on the user's name. Click **Add Contact** in the action menu that appears.

### User search

To find a specific user, use the **search field** in the [top toolbar](https://docs.breakroom.tech/getting-started/ui-tour#the-top-toolbar) to search for a full or partial name. If you like, you can filter the search results by checking the **Refine Search > User option.**

Once you've found the right person, click on their **name** to open their [user profile](https://docs.breakroom.tech/exploring-breakroom/networking-with-other-users/..#accessing-another-users-profile), and then click the **Add Contact** button.
